youth snow trip

The youth from our ward did their annual snow trip.  I drove and chaperoned the young women and Brandon attended with the boys (including a camping night out in the snow!).  This was our girls cabin "selfie" - obviously we were really roughing it!  The boys cabin was about 10 minutes away.

I got some fun action shots the next day.  It's tough shooting moving targets and trying not to get taken out while the youth fly down the mountain from every direction!  I won't post all 100 pictures I took, I'll just include the ones I got of Brandon.

It was perfect weather - plenty of snow for the kids to play in, but thankfully it was sunny and in the 50's so we didn't freeze to death!  These are some of the amazing ladies I get to work with.
I was too busy taking pictures to go sledding myself (and I wasn't sure how my ankle would hold up), but when "last run" was called, I handed my camera to my friend.  I didn't get very far up the mountain before my sled decided it wanted to go down without me so I hopped on and went down sideways, spinning around!  Thankfully she was paying attention and caught the action!

It's a lot of hours in the car, but it's always great to get away and just enjoy fun time together with these awesome youth and leaders!

tyler receives his webelo and his arrow of light!

Due to a change in the new cub scout program last spring, it is possible for the boys to receive two ranks/awards at the same time and that is exactly what happened to Tyler!  So first he received his Webelo rank...

And then a few minutes later he received his Arrow of Light!  I love our Cubmaster, and not just because he helps us with our Pinewood Derby cars, but because he truly loves all these boys, wants them to succeed, and celebrates with them when they do! I had the privilege of working with him when I was a cub scout leader years ago.  Many of us have often commented that we feel bad for whomever has this calling after him because he has set the bar extremely high!
He hand-makes all these things out of wood and they are truly masterpieces!  This month there were four boys who received their Arrow of Light.
We are so proud of Tyler and always thankful for a strong scouting program in our ward.

tyler made principal's list!

Not surprising, Tyler made the Principal's List for the first semester this year which means all A's both quarters.  He was one of only 4 kids in his class.

I love that the Principal gets down on their level, makes the kids look him in the eye, and he talks to each one for a minute. He honestly knows every kid's name at the school.  And somehow he got all the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to sit silently for the entire assembly.  I am amazed every time I'm around him.

This kid is way too smart for his own good.  He truly just loves to learn and I don't think he's ever argued with me about or procrastinated doing his homework.  We can't wait to see what this kid becomes and we are so proud of him!
